About
Welcome to The Fashion Throwaways,
My name is Silvia and I'm a teenager interested in fashion and recycling. I love music and I spend most of my time on the internet, as most people my age.
My goals is to make myself and others more aware about the way our clothing is made and the impact it has on the environment and the garment workers making our clothing. I would like to encourage people to up-cycle their clothes, by sharing my ideas and creations. I am not a seamstress or a fashion designer, so these tutorials will all be fool proof.
We purchase 8 billion items a year, and the average person in the US throws away 38kg of textile wasteannually. More than 15 billion kg of waste is generated in the United States in a year. If the average life of clothing (around 3 years) could be extended it would reduce waste generation as well as reduce water use and carbon emission by around 5-10%.
For that reason I would like to up-cycle my old clothes, this way I would be prolonging their use and reducing clothing consumption.
I hope you enjoy and will try some of these things. If you do, please feel free to share them with me on Instagram using the hashtag #FashionThrowaway and tagging @fashionthrowaways or by email at fashionthrowaways@gmail.com.
